(not satire – or is it?)
Over a year ago I wrote what was supposed to be a satirical blogpost:
Government ministers announce plans to deter immigrants to UK by making it shit
Now it seems it wasn’t satire at all – it was reality:
Revealed: parts of Britain now poorer than POLAND with Wales and Cornwall among Europe’s worst off
With Cameron and Clegg in charge, the line between satire and reality is getting thinner and thinner and thinner ………

Reblogged with apologies for the profanity in the title (which, in fact, seems justified once you’ve read the rest of it).

How sad that in the 4 years this pathetic excuse for a “government” took over, that this country has been dragged down and backwards so much 😦 Even sadder is the way “we” as a people have let it happen.

Living in the UK is SHIT, Counil tax 30% benefits rise 1% price increases in food of 2.8%. Just on food alone benefit claimants are 1.8% worse off. Take the maximum council tax they can force people on benefits to pay, 30% and claimants are over 30% worse off than 2 years ago. I say over 30% because my local council, LABOUR, chose the maximum 30% for council tax, just think if they had been free to choose any percentage they would have probably chose 100% causing extreme poverty for benefit claimants.

I don’t necessarily disbelieve this, however the page you linked to, sourced the data from the Daily Mail, rendering it immediately suspect. Also interesting, the North East seems not to exist on their map.

Are you suggesting the daily mail would ever make up data? For shame… wash your mouth out. I’m sure they meant to footnote where they got all the data and it just slipped their mind.
Seriously, after all this blog has said (quite correctly) about the mail, it is a bit rich to quote one of their unsourced stories without even a disclaimer as to it’s reliability

Even allowing for the fact that this comes from the Daily Mail, this does seem all-too plausible. Poland and the present Baltic states were the most economically developed parts of the former Russian Empire under the Tsar, American jokes about Polaks not withstanding. One of the travel books I read years ago in the 1990s about the former DDR pointed out that if you slightly tweaked the statistics, East Germany was roughly comparable in economy and standard of living with the North. As that was over 20 years ago, I have no trouble believing that parts of Britain are probably now worse off than parts of Poland.
