(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
Nigel Farage and his UKIP entourage have been thrown out of a pub in Bath today after trying to use it to host the launch of their European election campaign in the South West:
Nigel Farage and Ukip asked to leave Bell Inn pub in Bath
The manager of the Bell Inn said UKIP using the pub for their hustings was “not appropriate”
Here’s the pub’s Facebook page if you feel like sending a message of congratulations to them on the success of their selection policy for weeding out trouble-makers.

I don’t think we should get too exercised about this minorincident: According to The Western Daily News, it was the idea of local Bath businessman Martin Tracy who wanted to introduce Mr Farrago to local traders and thought the Bell Inn would be a convenient venue for a stop-off and a pint. I get the impression that the pub manager Mr Matthews objected because Mr Tracy wanted a camera crew there as well, or maybe he objected because he doesn’t vote UKIP, or didn’t want his pub associated with the views of UKIP. Which ever, when Mr Matthews stated that the visit “was inappropriate”, Mr Tracy backed down and apologised to Mr Matthews and the camera crew stopped filming. All in all, Bath is a lovely city to visit and so is Walcot Street, where the Bell Inn is situated, so I guess we can say it was all a little ‘storm in a UKIP beer cup” 🙂

he’s OK Nigel he says i put his points across better then he’ i should do I’m more balanced for starters and keep to what goes on in 98% of countries and their full proof immigration policies which are basically if people don’t know are just plain common sense
only a fool could make a hash of them in the first place. I’m not sating Nigel is a fool because he’s not it’s just he’s making a mountain out of a mole hill with regards immigration
all he need do is to talk about how the rest of the world deals with immigration and that we the uk should align ourselves in keeping with the rest of the world and not try to be the odd man out and therefore a failure like we are at present

The trouble with UKIP, is they are SOOO concentrated on the EU and Immigration…things that make peoples’ blood boil on both sides of the argument…to the TOTAL exclusion of any other policy discussion. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT FARAGE WANTS. If abyoone grilled them on things like The NHS or their Welfare proposals..you’d see they are actually WORSE than the Tory scum.

Bath pubs are for drinking beer, like all pubs. Nigel Farage and his political affiliates see an opportunity to exploit this ‘normality’ as an intrinsic part of their philosophy. The ejection of Nigel from the Bell is a ‘normal’ reaction to the sour undercurrent of UKIP policy. The point being that the ‘normal’ reaction to their manifesto is that of rejection, not inclusion. There has to be a beaming message there surely?

The title is incorrect as they were not thrown out. If you read the article you will see the landlord only objected to the filming but allowed them to drink in the pub. Very poor smear attempt.

Farage was also hounded out of an Edinburgh pub by a bunch of students – and that one was for real.

Yep. Hounded is the right word. Did you get the irony of him being called racist by a mob of fascists denying him his right to free speech by bullying him?

Modern political PR is not concerned with truth. Headlines and media-worthy scenarios are the game today, as they have been since the days of Rome. This is a game of power and spin. The truth matters little if at all. Do you live in the woods or something?

It’s been bugging me all day: I’m pretty sure Farage did this before, at another pub, and with a similar – equally reasonable – response. Can anyone remember where/when? I want to say it was in Scotland…

Lytham St Annes? I had a girlfriend from there years ago. I was in The Bell in Bath today 10 minutes after Farage was there – that is why I am on this wesite/ blog or whater it is The manager was very cool about the whole affair. It’s the best pub in Bath, it’s a residents collective that bought the pub after it went bust a couple of years back. Thank you for your offer of a pint. I’m not sure if it’s genuine or just an empty threat?

Haha, good. Hopefully it will be part of a trend. If Farage wants to do photo-ops in pubs, he should be restricted to the dingy St George Cross-draped depression-holes that he wants to consign his voters to.

he could have carried on speaking, that he was drowned out , unless you expect others to listen meekly and quietly, is his look out….others were also exercising their rights to free speech….perhaps, the best approach is for every one else but him and his entourage to clear the area, but then again it is a public place/area…then we arrive at, it was poor judgement on his part, surely he would have known that their would have been hostility towards himself, before hand….so draw your own conclusions….

This is very interesting indeed. Bath is a very expensive city. On one of the holiday programmes years ago, they compared the prices of a stay in various hotels around the world with those in some of Britain’s foremost tourist cities, like London. It turned out that Bath was more expensive to stay in than Milan. It’s also the constituency of Jacob Rees-Mogg, now doing is best to drum up support for the Tories while personally embodying all the class privilege you associated with the party. As for the Western Daily Press, the bias in that paper for the West of England is very strongly Europhobic Conservative./ UKIP. So it’s very interesting indeed that the pub landlord here threw them out.

there is a time and place for political debate, this can be done here, or in hired hall, on tv etc etc…but in a pub in the city of edinburgh, was asking for trouble and he knew it…..this act was very provocative…he got the reaction that he knew he would get/wanted/goaded….he failed to properly introduce himself, barged in, this is very rude and bad manners….

I don’t think he did know he was asking for trouble. He came to Edinburgh (to campaign in an Aberdeen by-election, just to show how much he understands Scotland) and thought his ‘genial bloke having a pint in the pub’ act would go down here just as well as it does it in the Home Counties. He got a rude awakening.
