(not satire – it’s Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson!)
Boris Johnson’s deputy mayor for policing and crime, Stephen Greenhalgh, said yesterday that he was ‘pleased’ rape is on the rise in London:
Crime chief ‘pleased’ rape on the rise in Camden
Of course, he meant he was pleased reporting of rape cases is going up – although that’s hardly a matter for celebration either. But his careless use of words is indicative of the casual way politicians in general regard crimes of this nature.
Also indicative of this careless attitude is the fact Greenhalgh is asking for water cannon to be given to police in London, arguing the Met needs these ‘tools for the job’ of fighting crime.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I know there has not been one recorded case of the police preventing rape or catching a rapist with a water cannon.
And Boris and Greenhalgh’s plans to close 63 police front counters won’t help fight crimes like rape either.

I wonder how far Greenhalgh’s attitude to policing is shared by his counterparts elsewhere in the force. A friend of mine grew up in rural Suffolk during the 1980s, and he has some stories about how terrifyingly Right-wing the local Tory MP and head of the police were then. One or the other of them explicitly referred to people on council estates as ‘scum’, and the police chief had such an overpowering hatred and fear of them in Bury St Edmunds that he obtained armoured cars from the RUC. I’ve got the feeling the Tory MP emigrated to America, where he is now a member of the militia movement, while the police chief sounds very much Idi Amin’s former head of security in Uganda. This man was so unpleasant and murderous that Black Ugandans called him ‘the White Rat’. For all the affable bluster and bonhomie, BoJo and Greenhalgh seem to have the same attitude.

I dunno
A pre-emptive strike in the nadgers of all males with high pressure cold water cannons should reduce rape.

How many people reported crimes about Jimmy Savile and were apparently ignored by the police.
It is not a case of more reporting by victims but whether the police and cps respond.

Shutting down the only link most people have with the police these days is indeed a retrograde step, maybe they have worked out that if it is harder to report crime the figures will drop then they can claim they are winning the fight against criminals.

This really should be filed under “Greenhalgh Watch”. The former Dear Leader of Hammersmith and Fulham Council puts his foot in it again.

I thought the police crime solving statistics were based on reported crimes solved, not on how much crime that is actually taking place but is unreported, because let’s face it, criminals are running the country.

What should worry bot Boris the Turk and the fat twat is the deliberate “massaging” of police statistics. Also the ever widening gap between the police and the rest of us. Closing the front counters is not the right answer.
