(not satire – it’s the UK today!)
David Cameron has defended his children’s nanny being granted UK citizenship by saying she is “someone who has come here and works hard and is now a British citizen“.
Fair enough.
But this is in stark contrast to NHS workers who have also come here and worked hard but are being sacked and thrown out of the country in a desperate attempt by the government to reduce immigration statistics before the next election:
Reducing immigration and undermining the NHS. Have you spotted Cameron’s trick yet?
The harsh reality and unfairness of the government’s anti-immigration campaign
So now we finally know what Cameron’s policy on immigration is.
Only acceptable if it benefits him personally.

My friend , a renal dialysis nurse has been refused leave to stay, 3 times. Twice wrongly. She is awaiting news of her appeal. She has nothing, despite working hard, and paying taxes for 12 years. Dual standards indeed.

I have asked elsewhere whether a utilitarian approach in these times of austerity might be euthanasia on the occasion of a politician’s first untruth. I would go further and wonder if we should look to this sanction at the first hint of evasiveness.

Hayley Miller, like Cameron’s nanny an Australian, came here as the spouse of an EU citizen 9 years ago. She is highly qualified and has worked ever since in the NHS in mental health services for children, paid taxes and never claimed any benefits.
After her marriage broke up she was told she had could remain indefinitely – now she has been given 28 days to get out of the country. She has appealed, but has lost her job already: the hospital has to look for someone who can guarantee they can complete their contract.
Now if she’d spent the time putting the Cameron kids’ dirty clothes through the washing machine, instead of helping everyone’s kids that needed it, she’d have citizenship by now.

He seems to like the Australians, lynton Crosby his election campaign manager, Murdoch who made sure he’s party was elected and now an Australian Nanny – perhaps he is thinking of moving down under!

yet I have a Filipino Carer who has looked after me for 5 years and is now refused a work permit to stay to continue caring for me …. even though we appealed their refusal in lower and upper immigration tribunals and won on basis of Article 8, they simply ignore the judgement

An Australian School teacher friend of mine has been sacked and told to get out by Easter.
After 14 years, a career, a teaching qualification, a mortgage and a life built around teaching.
I’m stunned.

Well, we can’t expect Dave’s wife, old horseface, to take care of her own children. As a nanny is bound to be quite well informed of what’s going on in a household (in this case Downing Street 10) she has to be rewarded, in this case with citizenship, to make sure she keeps any dirty little secrets to herself.
