(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
I’ve written before about how few things annoy me more than UKIP members pretending to support free speech when in fact they’re mostly just a bunch of old-fashioned authoritarians.
So not much surprise from me to find out the party is trying desperately to ban a satirical comedy show because it has the audacity to take the pee out of them:

Lacking any actually good reasons to ban the tour by Jonny and the Baptists, UKIP deputy party leader Paul Nuttall has taken to spreading lies about the show being funded by the taxpayer via the Arts Council – which it isn’t:

But just to pile on the hypocrisy even further, this blatant attempt at censorship of satirical comment comes just a few days after UKIP leader Nigel Farage defended a comedian at a UKIP event who had been criticised for telling racist jokes.
About that, Farage said:
“We are heading down a road here where we would kill all humour in this country if we tear things to pieces. Enough is enough, let people tell their jokes.”
So Farage thinks people should be free to tell their jokes?
But obviously not if the jokes are on UKIP, eh Nigel?

A taxpayer funded body should not be funding anything that could be seen as political when it is close to an election because the parties get central funding as part of their advertising budget, well the three old parties do UKIP gets nothing.

Barry: the group are not taxpayer funded. Some of the venues they perform at may be but not specifically for performances by the group. The group are funded by the public paying entrance fees to listen to and watch the group’s performances.
While you are right about the 3 main parties receiving funding that is because they have MPs in this country. UKIP MEPs receive funding from Europe, though it is very much an open question as to what they do for it and if they represent any real value for money in what they do – or don’t do – while they are in the European Parliament.

The Art Council are not directly or specifically providing funding for this group.
Their arts funding goes largely to venues and also includes funding for libraries and museums.
The satirical group involved receive no direct funding from the Arts Council.
Put simply, you and your fellow UKIPers are aiming your ire at the wrong target.
It is also a fact that your and other UKIPer reactions on this issue portray a lack of maturity. In a free society, there are occasions when commentary can be regarded as insulting and offensive. But that is the price we all pay to live in a free society.
Are you and other UKIPers saying that you do not want a free society but one in which people like yourself and other UKIPers are authorised to carry out the functions of a morality police, such as exists in Iran today?

Oh dear what a load of tripe the /Arts council are directly funding the group no matter how you try to cover it up. In a free society a government propaganda issue should be exposed. The people who think that government propaganda is to be lauded because it agree with them need to look at their maturity and understanding of history, what makes you think that complaining about pure propaganda has anything to do with Iran or any other anti democratic body such as the eussr.

Provide us all with details of the exact amount paid by the Arts Council to Jonny and the Baptists and the date on which it was paid.
If you cannot provide these details, you should retract your remarks about state-funded propaganda. You don’t need to apologise; just admit the truth.

UKIP’s plainly stated aim is for the UK to leave the EU. Some people are foolish enough to vote for UKIP MEP candidates, knowing that perfectly well that if elected the MEP will take the money and not take part in the European Parliament. How is that false pretences?

So what does that prove?
Only that they are in receipt of Arts Council funding.
You have failed – yet again – to establish any direct link between Arts Council funding and Jonny & The Baptists.
Can you provide details of Arts Council funding for Jonny and the Baptists?

You really must stop being so obtuse. It does the already frayed reputation of UKIP no good at all. With friends like you, what need do they have of any real enemies?
If your real objection is to any kind of public funding for the arts, then just say so.

The Roya exchange only employs 150 people full time the other people in the 500 it employs overall are those such as the pair you refer to ergo they are subsidised by our tax money via the government.

The group are not employed by the theatre; the group have booked the theatre and will be paying it a hire fee for the performances they stage there.
The group are an independent performing company.
They are not subsidised by anyone – not the Arts Council and not the theatre.
When will you get this simple fact drilled into your thick head?
There is an old saying: “When you are in a hole, stop digging”.
Like all amateur wannabe politicians, you need to learn this valuable lesson.

In reply to Barry Davies, I notice you didn’t defend the ukrap candidate in the Wilenshaw by election being anti eu, but taking a £100,000 business grant, Ukrap are officially listed as having some of the laziest MEP’s in the eu parliament. On 13th Dec 2013 ukrap abstained from voting, regarding a law proposed by Edithe Estralia MEP calling for compulsory gay sex education for all 5 year olds in schools . So why do ukrap turn up and betray children in this way? or are you ignorant about ukrap?.

Have any of you here ever heard of Richard coudenhove-kelegri? the founding father of the eu. In one of his speeches he state ” future eu citizens are to be a euro-asian-negroid race, to replace white people” this will happen if we are in the eu or not. . Seeing as ukrap are multi-cultural will they stop white genocide or not?

In 2 years time ukrap will be starved of publicity once they have served their purpose. Farage has alredy stated that if ukrap don’t gain “substantial seats” in the general ellections” he will quit .presumably after he has collected his 30 pieces of silver and done a tony blair. The eu didn’t exist in name when it was first set up for TRADE. It has now morphed in to a Stalinist state. Why do you want to replace the whites of Europe with a hybrid race? easier to control. the effect of this from the 1950’s onwards, can be seen in all our major towns and cities in Britain, and across western europe . I think you are in denial as to what is happening all around you. Why do we only have mass uncontrolled immigration to the west, and not China India, Saudia, or Africa?. Why is it forced on the west. FINKFURST. I didn’t know if he spoke about his views to an audience or just put it into print 80 odd years ago. You remind me of my coloured son in law whilst at school. His headmaster in assembly stated “anyone who opposes immigration is a racist” my coloured son in law said ” dose that include me sir” to which the head said “yes” then tried to correct himself. He sent a letter home with my son in law, grovelling for his comments. the White pupils didn’t get a letter home. you remind me of the headmaster. anybody who disagrees with you is a racist. = standard reply from a person in denial. Carl I think you will notice that they attend when there is a possibility of of doing something positive in Britains interest, which is a very small amount of the time, because even if every British MEP voted together they would be well and truly defeated by the foreigners, the parliament is at the bottom of the importance list where the eussr is concerned, it is run by unelected political failures.

Barry, it seems you have managed to learn one aspect of being a wannabe politician: failing to answer the original question (about Arts Council funding for Jonny & The Baptists) because you have no credible answer, and then trying to invent another question with which to attack others.
I think properly constructed education on sex and personal relations is a good thing for children – rather than just leaving them in the dark on a matter of personal significance – though I am not sure as to what the appropriate age should be.
I am a retired educationalist but I do not claim any particular expertise in this field.
That is better left to knowledgeable experts and not to individuals like us who have nothing but personal opinions on the subject to offer.
Sometimes, Barry, it is better to admit when you don’t know rather than keep on forcibly expressing opinions on matters you know little or nothing about.
I think you have yet to learn that lesson but I will always be happy to be pleasantly surprised by any late flowering of understanding on your part.
You say you are not a spokesperson for UKIP. So what are you, Barry?

It is amazing just how wrong Barry manages to get things. If he is any kind of indicator as to the quality of UKIP supporters in this country, we all may need to worry.

Barry then makes the stupid statement above, overlooking the fact that it was Carl Mason who raised this topic first with Barry – not me.
I don’t know why Barry is fixated on the concept of having sex with 5-year olds.
It does not seem healthy to me. I hope he will now drop it.
Of course, Carl’s original question as to why UKIP MEPs failed to turn up and vote in the European Parliament on the question of compulsory gay sex for 5-year olds remains unanswered by Barry. What is Barry trying to hide?
This does indicate quite clearly that Barry has a problem with actual facts. So far, all he has provided are opinionated views, which any fool can do. It is high time he started to support his statements with facts, which he has signally failed to do so far.

I believe you were the one who claimed that UKIP had abstained from a debate on sex for 5 year olds which means you were the one referring to it, UKIP abstain from many different items the foreigners try to bring in because like every other nations mep’s they have no real power at all, which is how the set up is supposed to be just a pretence that there is some democracy in the eussr although essentially there is none whatsoever, I don’t understand your thinking that any of it matters.

So how is he going to tell who is an assylum seeker and who is not? Economic migrants continue to pose, in their thousands, as assylum seekers, with their wild stories

If you have no idea what you are talking about please refrain from posting junk. Farage has never claimed to be against immigration period. He is against the unfettered immigration forced on to us when Bliar signed the constitution, referred to as the lisbon treaty without the promised referendum. UKIP has never claimed to want to stop all immigration.

To be fair to Barry, Nigel Farage did advocate allowing Syrian refugees into the UK.
Also, UKIP – rightly in my opinion – have always made it clear that Cameron and others are making false claims to be able to control immigration when the vast majority of migrants originate from EU countries, against which this country is powerless to control their numbers.
I support a fully-informed discussion and referendum in this country on continuing membership of the EU. Always have done, as I firmly believe the people of this country were hoodwinked into a gradual process of joining a free trade area or common market without ever realising what “ever-closer union” actually meant.
I suspect such a referendum would result in the UK staying in the EU but let us at least have a once-and-for-all-time vote on it. Let the people truly decide – just for once.

No, Barry, it was not me who brought up UKIP abstention on the subject of sex education for 5 year olds. It was Carl Mason. Please get your facts right.
Not knowing the full facts of the situation, it is difficult to pass a judgment but if it is true that UKIP Members of the European Parliament chose to abstain on voting on such an issue, it does raise the question as to why they behaved in the way they did?
Abstention could result in such measure becoming EU law and enforceable by EU and nation-state administrations. Is it sensible or principled to do nothing while such legislation is being given possible legal force?
To be honest, I find such behaviour immature, to say the very least.
UKIP MEPs should at least express opinions and vote on the basis of their principles, informed by what we would consider British values, in such a legislative assembly.
Taking the money and taking the piss – at who, exactly? – does not strike me – nor I suspect, many others – as very edifying.

I’m sure you find the slanging matches between camoron and moribund highly entertaining as well, although they only waste the time of parliament to actually debate items that the nation thinks about, just like when other ministers/shadow ministers have a go at each other the recent debacle of Hunt and Burnham took up half the allotted time on the mid staffs debate, before the grown ups got a chance to actually talk some sense without the sensationalising of the non existent vases or the grossly inflated death rate, but then you would have turned it off for the real debate wouldn’t you.

Actually, I find the conduct of the commons to be one of the biggest jokes of parliamentary democracy in the whole world (along with our ‘welfare state’).
