Tesco has announced plans to open 40 new skips across the UK in a bid to break Iceland’s lead in the relatively new starving customers market.
The supermarket retailer announced Wednesday it will be adding another 40 new skips across the country, with most of the locations in deprived areas such as the north of England, Scotland and Wales.
The launch due in the first half of 2014 will see Britain’s biggest supermarket go head-to-head with other high street retailing giants as competition in the desperately malnourished sector widens.
The ambitious new expansion project also includes plans for the retailer to expand its own brands of out-of-date food staples as well as develop a wider range of rotting and putrid fresh grocery products to be thrown away.
Several new skips will open in Liverpool, Glasgow, Cardiff, Birmingham and Manchester with expansion of existing skips at sites in other deprived areas.
The announcement comes just days after the CPS announced it was dropping plans to prosecute three men accused of stealing food from bins outside an Iceland store after Iceland CEO Malcolm Walker pointed out to them that people must be really really really desperate to steal food thrown away from one of his stores.

celebration over skip food a plus for the very real issue of where citizens of the uk are at but surley even for tesco to make this sort public newspress is a political shame. Think free people love and blessings.

excellent article Mr Pride- am awaiting notification of a branch opening in Bristol. I do hope they’re only going to cater for the better class of homeless and hungry, and not allow any old scrounger or riff raff to use the service

ALL supermarkets should make these items available free of charge at the store on the day of the expiry date, then there is no legal problem and no health problem. If nobody takes them, then put them in the skip.

A source near to David Cameron has suggested this lunchtime that all food banks will be taxed at the standard rate. He went on to say what a magnificent example of British enterprise that food banks were becoming so popular. He was clear that he would not be availing of one himself but that it was right for the hardworking people of his country – the sort of happening that makes Britain great again!

at the moment Tesco pore bleach over their food but one wonders if this was put away from their deliverys thuss making it safer for those in drastic need then wouldn’t their landfill taxes come down for them making it a win for the not so cheap tescos but then when did common sense ever come into it it a pipedream but then they could show others to please managers of our stores no police one day it could very well be you jeff3

Perhaps people should be fighting to reinstate decent benefits and incomes if in work instead of arguing for them to fight one another for out of date food, I’m sure given the economic climate there will be a stampede.

Nobody in a supposedly civilized democracy, that has a NI system in place, should be subjected to begging for out of date food.
If this is how this government see themselves fixing the deficit, then I think the cure is turning out worse than the illness, especially for the poorest in society.

Come to merry England, a country full of skips full of suprises. Join the starving minions as they scrabble for survival in this green unpleasant land. Watch the tax-break millionaires chortle their way through troughs full of goodies including posh biscuits for a certain govt department.
All humour aside this country is now the third world part of Europe.

I feel so bad for the people that have to look in skips for food and I am sure that the numbers will increase the longer we have a Tory government in power. If you care about your fellow man who finds himself in such desperate circumstance VOTE THESE B******S OUT first chance we get, they are EVIL SCUM
