(not satire – it’s the coalition government!)
It’s a clever trick.
First of all you refuse to renew the visas of working immigrants who are here completely legally. Then you declare them illegal and deport them. And finally you boast about how you’re reducing ‘illegal’ immigration.
Here’s an example of the con trick in action.
An Australian child psychotherapist called Harley Miller – a legal migrant who has worked in the NHS for 9 years – is about to be deported as an ‘illegal’ immigrant:
Immigrant stories: The psychotherapist and the letter of proof
Devious stuff.
But Cameron and Clegg’s con trick is even more devious than that.
A recent study shows 11% of NHS staff and over a quarter of NHS doctors are from overseas.
By deporting NHS workers, it creates staff shortages, longer queues and a much more inefficient NHS – thereby making it easier for the coalition government to sell off the NHS to ‘more efficient’ private healthcare companies
So Cameron and Clegg get to look like they’re reducing immigration while simultaneously helping to sell off the NHS.
It’s the perfect confidence trick that even professional hustlers would be proud of.
And everyone seems to have fallen for it.
Have you?

You can sign a petition to stop the deportation of Harley Miller here:

If it creates shortages, how many immigrants were working in the NHS?

This is the type of propaganda that is coming out of the NHS, pity about those who have to use wheelchairs or those stuck at a computer all day.
Apparently you can still did even if you go to a gym.
You couldn’t make it up!

As an ex – NHS nurse i have been witness to the crooked evil deeds from the corporation’s, Cameron, Clegg and Labour. People just allow us to lose our unique service to the money grabbing private sector. This has been going on for years now, look into the Foundation Trust Status. Does not stop at NHS, but Education as well. Wish UK would wake up..

Propoganda? This is a reasonably balanced analysis of a peer-reviewed medical study which was misrepresented in the Daily Mail. It is fairly clear about how valid the study appears to be, its limits and caveats about making generalisations based on it. The analysis was done by a 3rd party company owned by the Economist and doing work for NHS Choices.

Is there a flaw in this rationale? – When the government sells off the NHS to ‘more efficient’ private healthcare companies, where will these companies find the cheap employees they need?

No flaw. The private companies’ overseas employees are not being targeted.

Of course! But just another thought… are the agencies which provide staff to both NHS and private healthcare being ‘targeted’ by this government? As you probably know, they account for quite a large proportion of the workforce.

No flaw FinkFurst. This has been carefully thought through. They are expanding the workfare programme.
I hope you realise how much each slave (sorry, work experiencer) costs the taxpayer. £71.70 a week aged over 25, as these lazy oldies do not budget as well as under 25s who can not only live on £56.80 a week, but manage to pay for fags, lager, crack cocaine, tattoos and a flat screen TV and have several farthings change. On top of that there is around £3,000a year paid direct to the companies who exploit (sorry, provide work experience to) the serfs. This makes the companies which provide work experience very profitable, (which every right winger believes = efficient) and keeps the welfare bill very high. Hence more austerity needed.

I fully agree with your (and Tom’s) underlying worries about NHS privatisation, and I think almost complete NHS privatisation IS a Conservative plan, but this supposed ‘devious trick’ just isn’t true. If we waste our time ’tilting at windmills’ then the real evil giants will slip past unnoticed.

Well the Government claimed it would reduce immigration, so it can’t do it by cutting the immigration from the eussr, it has to therefore hit people from other nations. The NHS has for a long time relied on staff from the commonwealth nations, who are now denied the chance to migrate to Britain, and to cut the amount here they are the ones being picked on.
