A Liberal Democrat councillor has accused a Welsh National Assembly member who got caught up in deadly clashes between riot police and protesters in Kiev as being ‘on a Jolly‘.
While in Ukraine as part of a European Union Committee of the Regions delegation, Welsh Assembly Member Mick Antoniw witnessed first-hand the violent crackdown on protesters by riot police:
In response, Liberal Democrat County Councillor Mike Powell tweeted criticism of Mr Antoniw‘s visit by accusing him of being ‘on a Jolly‘:
If Cllr Mike Powell sees the protests in Ukraine as a Jolly – where at least 3 people have so far died and hundreds injured – I wonder how he sees the civil war in Syria?

Does this explain how Liberal Democrats can live with the effects of Iain Duncan Smith’s attacks on the poor, the unemployed, the sick and the disabled – that they really don’t understand the significance?

The Liberal Democrats have proved their dispassionate qualities time and again. It started when they joined forces with the Conservatives and has only snowballed since then. You’re right that it’s not a good enough excuse, but that is because they’re a poor excuse for a political party, they trampled the clear wishes of their voters into the dirt and exist only to further the aims of themselves and big corporations. This is just another example of the real face of the current Liberal Democrat Party, shallow, self-serving and completely lacking in humanity’ I have said (and will go on saying) that I truly hope that every single one of them lose their deposit at the next election, I hope that they are totally humiliated at the Polls because then they may comprehend a tiny shred of the despair that they have not only enabled but have pro-actively participated in.

Disgusting! That’s his seat just gone – but then again, the Lib/Dem party will be no more come the election. The only way that they could redeem themselves now is to walk away from the coalition, but they won’t as they are far too greedy!

I’m sad to see a Libdem councillor criticising honest accounts of the violence in Kiev as just being comments from a Welsh Assembly member ‘on a jolly’. I have a close friend from the Ukraine, now a married British citizen, university student and mother to two little girls. She has made me aware of the problems in her home country, where her mother has often been refused a visa to visit her and her family here in GB – and the application fee of £500 is confiscated each time. Ukraine is much closer to the West than many people here realise and we should be offering support and friendship to its citizens.
