(not satire – it’s the Tories!)
Tory MP for Croydon South Richard Ottaway called the police when a group of 11 pensioners turned up at his surgery to deliver a petition.
He claimed he was worried about being “murdered” by his constituents.
No, I promise you this is not satire. Here’s the full story:
Croydon South MP Sir Richard Ottaway calls police over constituents delivering petition
Interestingly, Ottaway was knighted in the New Year’s Honours list for ‘services to politics’ – which even the the Daily Mail described as an example of “Cronyism and low-level corruption”.
Even more bizarrely, Ottaway has now threatened to call the police again if more than 10 of his constituents turn up at one of his surgeries:
“If I discover more than 10 unknown people are to descend on my surgery, I will be notifying the police in the future.”
Why on earth aren’t the police warning him about wasting police time? Are they running scared perhaps because ‘Sir’ Ottaway is a good friend of Andrew ‘Plebgate’ Mitchell?

Doesn’t it say every thing about these people needing protection. First Idiot Dumkoff Schmit with his armed guards and now some nonentity crying to the police. If it were me I would be asking serious question of myself like, “What have I done that makes me so afraid of the very electorate I rely on for my very comfortable life style”

This is as bad as IDS being surrounded by armed police when meeting with a group of disabled people recently. And that was in Westminster too, I believe. I’m not sure if all the constituents wanted into the building or no, but they should have been allowed a peaceful protest outside while one of their number delivered the petition, at least. Mind you, the right for peaceful protest is under attack by yet another of this vile coalition’s “reform” bills. I bet all these MPs cowering in fear are meant to convince us that the bill is needed.

If he normally sees fewer than 10 people at his surgery then he’s obviously no f**king good at helping constituents who have a problem. Or maybe he doesn’t try very hard to tell his constituents when the surgeries are. That’s also quite a common tactic by some MPs who are too busy making money elsewhere.

If he is a friend of Mitchell then It’s a shame 11 policemen didn’t turn up and ‘plebgate’ him accordingly

Was he not following the agreed procedure determıned by parliament after the knife attack on the Labour MP Stephen Timms a while back? I suggest ıt would be folly to assume that just because they were pensioners one or more of their number is not capable of mounting an attack if they were of a mind to do so. As the saying goes – better safe than sorry.

What is the country coming to? Why are we even having this discussion? Will we ever get back to the situation where your local MP had a surgery at an announced time and anyone wanting to see him simply came along.

This really does show that the Coalition are afraid of the British electorate, especially after IDS turned up before the Work and Pensions Committee with armed policemen. This fear of dissenting or critical voices now seems general. In last fortnight’s Private Eye there was news in the ‘Rotten Boroughs’ column of a parish council, where the local leader had called the police because they were under attack from ‘anarchists’. In actual fact, this was a group of middle-aged protesters, rather than the class-conscious autonomous followers of Kropotkin and Bakunin. When the police stated they were not going to arrest ordinary citizens exercising their democratic rights, the councillor closed the meeting. Such is the level of trust and sympathy for the electorate in Cameron’s brand-new Britain.

I like that idea – in fact, any more than 10 people for any Tory or Lib/Dem MP should be put in the back of a Black Maria and talked to accordingly!
