(This is not satire – it’s the fruitcakes of the WBC!)
In a series of tweets, the infamous Westboro Baptist Church in the US has blamed the Glasgow helicopter crash on Scotland’s plans to allow gay marriage:

And drinking alcohol:

Well, I suppose they would be offensive if they weren’t so bananas…..

Please feel free to comment.

well i could get offended and launch into a tirade against the baptist church but instead I’ll retort with the common Scottish expression – “did ye aye” – in a sarcastic tone which loosely translated means “I’m not really paying attention, but you said something and i don’t wish to appear rude, however your comment has been paid no mind”…. 😉

I’m an atheist, but these sickos believe in the bible which tells of water being turned into wine, so I guess their Jesus enjoyed a drink! Involving children in their vile activity is, I believe, emotional child abuse.

Sorry Tom, I’m normally 100% behind every word you write; not this time. Speaking of which, (timing) yours is totally out of order in publishing the utter bilge spewed forth from this sick bunch of moronic ‘Bast/ptists, whilst the City of Glasgow / people everywhere, are still reeling, dealing and grieving from the shock of the tragedy; not least the families of the dead and injured. This garbage only adds to their pain. It could have waited. At least till the dust settles. Literally.

Mhara – I understand what you’re saying but I disagree. Offensive opinions should always be given the light of day. Brushing them under the carpet only makes them fester.

well said Tom
To add something here – SkyNews running wall to wall coverage of this tragedy/accident. Also this morning had a comment on the number of elephants dying in Africa. Sky News or other media make NO COMMENT at all about the disabled dying because of welfare reform – now possibly numbering 50,000 – all things in perspective hey???

Westboro Baptist Church has long been known for this sort of thing. It’s no ordinary baptist church. Most of it’s members (40-50 in total) are related to their pastor. A bunch of inbred, southern nuts.

Or, as is commonly said in Glasgow from one who disagrees with an utterance: ‘Awa ‘n’ bile yer heid’. (=’Boil your head’, for those needing translation).

Fully agree. Let them hang themselves with their own senseless tongues. It’s the only way of showing what such people are. I’d appreciate any OT or NT reference to a helicopter.

I am a Christian (what flavour of Christian is not important). I am also a Glaswegian. My immediate reaction was to be ashamed of being Christian, then I realised that the WBC are not Christians so why should I feel any guilt by association? Christ ate with sinners, refused to condemn them and preached by example. WBC are a bunch of bigoted redneck crackers and we should ignore them. They are not allowed into the UK so will not be able to picket funerals – they would be better advised to take up snake handling – it would be less risky.
On a lighter note. Can you imagine their faces when St Peter says ‘you’re not getting in. The boss’s son says you have been using his name in vain?’

As far as I can make out, these incestial gibbons don’t deserve any attention. Just a few cracker-jack wacko’s hiding behind a computer printing their mentally sick ideology. They wouldn’t get through any of the airports, and even if they did make it through and attempted to voice their nonsense, they’d better have a death-wish, they wouldn’t last 5 minutes. My thoughts are with those directly involved, their families, the emergency services and the peoples of Glasgow and surrounding areas

I agree. My objection is not with the article per se, but the timing of it.
Jeremy’s comment; “to add something here – SkyNews running wall to wall coverage of this tragedy/accident”.
So what? Your point (if there is one) escapes me.There’s a world of difference between immediate, essential coverage of a tragic event, to that of providing a free platform to a bunch of repugnant fanatics spouting their homophobic drivel; and all within 48 hours of the tragedy. If that’s too much to grasp, try this; if the grieving friends /relatives of the dead and injured were stood before you now, what would you do? What would you say? Would you SERIOUSLY direct them to this information (or anything similar) to add to their pain? Of course you wouldn’t. Because there’s a time and a place, and now aint it. But someone else will, because it’s there and they can. And if it wasn’t printed here, it will be somewhere else. But that doesn’t make it right. Pride’s Purge is worth more.

Mhara – just about everyday someone tells me to shut up in one way or another. Your comment is just another version of the same thing – albeit cleverer than most.
Pride’s Purge is about free speech if nothing else.
Your comment about whether I would direct the grieving friends /relatives of the dead and injured to the WBC comments if they were stood before me is silly. I’ll explain why.
My son was born without an arm. If I were stood before someone and they made or showed me an offensive comment (for example) about one-armed people, it would clearly be inappropriate. But does that mean I think people should be banned from posting offensive comments or jokes or whatever about one-armed people on blogs or social media in general? No, of course not.
My opinion about offensive opinions in general is to give them a platform and let them dig their own graves.
Nice try to get me to shut up – but no cigar.

Tom; “Nice try to get me to shut up” – ha ha!
Are you suffering from some form of paranoia, by any chance? I think you must be. Otherwise, why on earth would you think I want to “shut you up”? I wouldn’t be following your blog if I wanted to do that, would I? There’d be nothing to read for a start. And who wants to look at a blank page? Neither would I have passed on several of your articles in just the last week, as I have done. Elementary……
As for, “whether I would direct the grieving friends /relatives of the dead” etc;
Unless you’ve changed your name to ‘Jeremy’ or he’s your alter ego, what followed after the third sentence of my previous comment applies to him, not you; the clue’s in the sentence beginning with “Jeremy’s comment”.
LOUD & CLEAR! ONE LAST TIME. ALL I HAVE TAKEN ISSUE WITH IS NOT THE CONTENT OF YOUR PIECE (WHICH I AGREE WITH 100%) BUT THE TIMING OF IT. WHAT PART OF THAT DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?
Rhetorical question; I really don’t give a damn.
[No paranoia Mhara. Just about everyday someone tries to shut me up. At the moment I’m under yet another threat of libel – this time from a Tory MP – if I don’t take down one of my posts (in other words ‘shut up’). I’m always happy to provide my objectors with a right to reply – just as I am doing with you here. But actually Mhara, I don’t give a damn either about your attempts to get me to censor myself (in other words ‘shut myself up’). I thought we were having an intelligent discussion about the limits of free speech. Your descent into CAPITAL insults show I was clearly mistaken. So I will now do what I do to most people who argue I should censor myself. Ignore you. And if you don’t like what I write – or the ‘timing’ of it – here’s a radical thought. Don’t read it.] – Tom
