(not satire – it’s the UK today)
I’m not usually one to go out of my way to defend the Guardian.
However, it should be remembered that the present ‘legal difficulties‘ being experienced by David Cameron’s two News International mates at the moment stem from the Milly Dowler hacking story published by the Guardian back in July 2011.
Until this story broke the public didn’t really care all that much about oversexed or unfaithful MPs and stars having their phones hacked.
At the time, James Murdoch was even said to have described the accusations of hacking as ‘unimportant’.
The Guardian’s Milly Dowler investigations however changed all that.
As a direct result of the article we saw the closure of the News of the World as well as News International top executives being hauled before the courts, having their private lives humiliatingly paraded in public for all to see and facing possible jail sentences.
But now – at exactly the same time as this court case – we have Cameron singling out the Guardian by name with dark warnings that the government is prepared to use injunctions and D notices to prevent the publication of information that could “damage national security”.
Damage national security?
What like pointing out the misdeeds of his neighbours, close friends (LOL) and employees perhaps?

Cameron on Coulson:
“When you work with someone for four years as I did and you work closely, you do build a friendship and I became friends with him… so, yes, he became a friend and is a friend.”
Cameron to Brooks:
“Fast, unpredictable and hard to control but fun”

It could be argued that Cameron is also ‘taking out the death of his son on disabled people’ too. Why? Because he’s a simplistic, narcisistic, nasty, foul, devious, lying tory that’s why!!

National Security does indeed have it’s place-to stop people from being killed, stopping terrorists from getting nuclear codes ect. But it is not meant to be abused to stop embarrassing stories. If that happens, the press might start ignoring D-notices.
