(not satire – it’s the UKIP!)
There was a minor council by-election last Thursday – the Silverdale and Parksite ward of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council.
It was a Labour hold but very interestingly it showed a strong 7.3% swing from UKIP to Labour in an area which was supposed to be a target for Nigel Farage’s party.
Not great news for Nigel I would imagine, who has recently been trying to convince everyone that UKIP doesn’t only enjoy support in the south-east of England and will be targeting more seats in traditional Labour strongholds from now on.
A Thatcher-worshipping, right-wing Tory splinter group campaigning to win over traditional Labour voters?
Good luck to him with that.

UKIP lost votes but won their percentage of the SHOUTING population who turned out went up. So ‘The Great Farage’ counts that as a MORAL VICTORY-HUZZAH!

Traditional labour voters are to the left of the labour party so why would they vote for right wing UKIP, it makes no sense other than as a protest vote against labour and it’s inability to tackle controversial issues.

can we take it that this ‘swing’ in only partially to the right and not as far right as would be liked as labour doesn’t do ‘left’ anymore

perhaps people will vote labour hoping that the roots to old labour still remain but i think that these have been well and truly cut by now…

Hardly surprising that Labour held onto a council seat vacated by Labour in what is traditionally one of the safest Labour parliamentary seats in the country even though Labour are now Tory-Lite.

Of course this ignore the hard campaigning done locally by the Labour Party with lots of door stepping, talking to the voters and delivering leaflets covering the issues. I am pleased to say it worked this time!
