(not satire – it’s the UK today)
George Rolph is on Day 14 of a hunger strike protesting against the UK government’s appalling treatment of the disabled, the sick and the most vulnerable people in society.
This morning Facebook deactivated George Rolph’s page without warning – no reason was given.
Presumably the fact that someone in the UK is so appalled by the government’s persecution of the vulnerable and the poor that they’re willing to die to try to stop it, is far too uncomfortable for Facebook to contemplate.
But pretending it’s not happening won’t make it go away.

well i doubt if American company would go looking for groups that were critical of the something going on in Brittan.

I imagine some people may have contacted facebook with grave concerns about mental health and suicide copycats. I can imagine people from the DWP and the Tory party looking for excuses like this to have the page shut down. But without the facebook page, George may have already been dead as his initial protest was no food or drink. It was people talking to him on facebook that finally persuaded him after several days to start taking liquids.

btw such tragic irony Tom is posting about a hunger striker whilst on other blogs we are reading about foodbanks that discriminate against benefit claimants who have had their benefits removed..whenhelp for food is when they need them the most

I feel really sorry for the guy threatening hunger strike but I did sense an element of emotional blackmail-it was sounding ever so slightly manipulative (if you leave me I will kill myself) and that might of got some ppls backs up hence the abuse
also I think as a rule the general public tends to be more sympathetic to ‘physical’ disability

George Rolph was involved in an abusive relationship where he was victimised and battered by his female partner.
Due to the domestic violence he now has PTSD and can no longer work.
Im not sure that sounds completely credible in respect of long term ESA disability payments and Disability Living Allowance….

My intuition tells me he is not a 100% genuine-he is sounding like a professional victim with an grudge against women.
I think its a faux hunger strike and he is just attention seeking because he has a personality disorder.
I have a close relative with a very severe disability and Im woried this hunger striker guy does the cause a dis service,

His ex girl friend abused him so badly (23 years ago) he can now no longer work
The Daily Mirror journalist who was a female was not allowed to be on her own with him during their interview.
Once again- I feel bad for not being more sympathetic but he could get a job where there are no women could’nt he?
Also he claims to be a Christian yet he is using the threat of suicide as a form of protest-this is not really acceptable behaviour for a believing Christian is it?
It all sounds slightly odd…perhaps thats why the BBC havent touched the story with a barge pole.

This hunger striker guy is a woman hater he has posted comments on the internet that indicate he has zero empathy for abused women.
He is heavily into the whole ‘blame game’-if you read through his story its ‘poor me’ all the way.
Victim-hood is a powerful role.
Individuals play the “victim” to manipulate and control others- holding others as emotional hostages-I feel he is definitely doing this.
He is even comparing himself to Bobby Sands??
I hate what the Govt are doing to the disabled but I think this hunger strike is creepy.

I just cant support it.
When I was a kid I used to hold my breath in order to try get my own way.
In a sense this is what George is doing -its immature and manipulative.
I know very severely disabled people (including an immediate family member) who are not supporting this man.
Its irresponsible and insulting to the genuinely disabled.
Yes he is evidently mentally disordered but he can still do some form of work…

I thought it was informative and constructive…ive heard Since that DWP are putting together some positive guides for Poor people Who have children with life threatening conditions where once the child has passed away they can aid police enquiries by lending officers the identities of their deceased children. So its not all doom and gloom After all
