(not satire – it’s the Daily Mail)
The Daily Mail has surpassed even itself in its obsessive attacks on the benefits system – this time by using 6 dead kids to make a purely political point.
Here’s today’s front page:
Now we know just how low Lord Rothermere is prepared to go in his manic support of David Cameron’s war on the welfare state.

As long as Cameron has his elitist pals to spread his Tory lies across the mass media, we must redouble our efforts to fight his extreme views. This is a vile message to share on the front page of a daily to be seen by the innocent members of this tragic family. Shame on you Daily Mail.

the comments on their website in responce to their reporting on this case are equally offensive and ill informed. It seems to have bought out the string them high brigade with a nasty side line of bashing the welfare system and using the case to support the barbaric cuts.

I had enough of the right wing press over the weekend as they spouted their propaganda.
This however is beyond the pale. They have gone way too far.
I hope someone can provide details on how to make a complaint to the PCC or whatever body is supposed to smack their wrist.
Bastards. No wonder they were up Camoron’s arse to try and stop legislation after the Leveson enquiry.

I just knew the Mail would use this tragedy, so they could have a go at the welfare state and people on benefits. I could not bring myself to read the story after seeing the headlines. It used to be the Sun that was the most hated newspaper, now it’s the Mail.

The Daily Mail feeds the prurient cravings of a depraved and vindictive readership – it has no shame. It is as shamelessly opportunist as are it’s readers and its political masters. Lies become truth and truth becomes lies to these people as easily and as often as does drawing breath…

The same paper said only a week or two ago that it was terrible of left-wing campaigners to make political capital of the death of the transgender teacher following Richard Littlejohn’s comments.
Yet here we are making political capital from the deaths of children.
Anyway I can’t sit around here all day I need to be out making babies for money, because that is what us benefits claimants do
apparently.

I agree with you, Tom, that the DAILY MAIL headline is misleading. There was a discussion on Radio 2 on the Jeremy Vine show this morning with Polly Toynbee (Guardian) and Anne Widdecombe (ex- Tory Social Security minister) and they made the point that Mick Philpott played the welfare system by urging his girlfriends whom he had ‘groomed’ to have as many children as possible, to claim thousands of pounds in child benefits, and he also abused the welfare system by pretending to be looking for work when in reality he had no intention of working, but he was not ever a PRODUCT of the welfare system, because he was a product of his own vile manipulative shady and violent character and nature. GO TO JAIL!! — DO NOT PASS GO!! — DO NOT COLLECT £10,000!! [not SATIRE!!]

Thank God not everyone is singing to your tune, the man may have been unemployed and had a violent past but that does not mean he and his wife were guilty of killing their own children, they were described as good parents also you missed that.

By chance I heard Anne Widdecombe on the BBC news channel. Heard her making the point that Philpott wasn’t a product, and some other interesting points too. it is truly frightening when right wing politicians talk sense, but reassuring that she is opposed to the Mail’s loathsome publishing.

The Daily Mail’s article makes me ashamed to be part of the same country as its editor. The ghastly stuff that appears on their comments pages, like that of so many sites, is the kind of fulminations that annoy but at least remain at the level of the bar room or the dinner table. Publishing it in a paper with pretensions to intellectual content is more than shameful. How do we start a boycott the Mail campaign?
