On their Facebook page today, Homebase have denied they’re using unemployed people from the government’s Workfare scheme to work for them for free:
Which is a bit strange when you consider this tweet from Finsbury Park Job Centre Plus on Wednesday:
See what I mean?
Could it be that Homebase are so embarrassed by their participation in Workfare that they’re reduced to telling porkies about it?

Nah, this will be the old saw several used employers used before – recruitment is local, the arrangements are made locally, there’s no *national* policy to use workfare, but there’s no policy not to either.

Homebase does not have ‘a policy’. The DWP does not have ‘targets’. Orwell was right about the debasement of language-IDS probably thinks the Coalition is ‘doubleplusgood’.

They are not denying that they have people from workfare working in their stores, they are clearly stating that they don’t intend to employ anyone who gets set to them on workfare into full or part time employment by Homebase.
Please read it carefully, the statement from Homebase is actually more telling than you’ve shown it to be!
It clearly defines that homebase would rather have free labour from the workfare programe and deny any person admitted to them on workfare no chance of employment at all!!

Either as Rory says they “do not have a policy to recruit from the workfare programme” but they do have a policy to exploit from the workfare programme, or just old fashioned semantics around the word ‘workfare’ not being official name.

Not surprised at all ,if you follow the government by example ,cheat,lie and above all if caught deny everything…………………………………..its everywhere ,people saying whatever they want ………………………………………well good luck to them because when decent people catch you our way of dealing with greed is to starve you out……………don’t complain you did this with greed not need………

I am saying what Homebase are saying!
1. Homebase is saying their policy is NOT to employ anyone on contractual basis that they acquire through the workfare programe.
2.Because of this they’re happy to indulge in the exploitation of any person that is offered to them on workfare for the purpose of free labour (aka slavery/unpaid work) with strictly firm NO to the possibility of anyone admitted to Homebase ever being contracted to fork for pay.
In short Homebase is saying YES to unpaid work and NO to contracted paid work by the statement from Homebase as shown above.

Another underlying issue is that the store mentioned in the tweet has several members of staff either off sick or suspended and this is the regional managers idea to keep the store running as cheaply as possible…

It look someone doing false advertising, I say report both an let the ASA sort out which organisation is doing the force advertising and slap a nice big fine on them.
