(not satire – it’s the Daily Mail)
Here’s a sad reminder of why we need press regulation in this country.
Transgender primary school teacher Lucy Meadows – who was mercilessly bullied by jumped-up Daily Mail bully-boy Richard Littlejohn – has been found dead:
Teacher due to begin new term at school as a woman is found dead
Littlejohn – who makes a habit of attacking normal hard-working people like teachers while relying on the impressive legal resources of his employer Lord Rothermere to protect him from any threat of libel from people without the financial means to challenge him in court – recently attacked Ms Meadows in this now-deleted disgusting Mail article (beware – Daily Mail bile):
He’s not only in the wrong body… he’s in the wrong job
This is a good reminder why we urgently needed press regulation.
To protect normal, hard-working people like Lucy Meadows from being mercilessly bullied by wealthy, intolerant gutter-press bully-boys like Littlejohn in the name of so-called ‘free speech’.

Pathetic tears that well up in the eyes of journalists just doing their job are a pathetic attempt at trying to cover up their own excesses. A ‘Leveson’ would not be needed if they had followed basic human decency and not destroyed so many people’s lives.

Anyone who lynched this hateful individual would – rightly – be guilty of a dreadful crime.
And, paradoxically, doubtless deserving of a medal.

Where in my article did I say her death was Littlejohn’s fault. I said she was bullied by him, which she was. I also said she died, which she did.

or if she read it all or if she was aware he had been writing about her.

There are already laws in place that cover illegality such as bullying or libel. It’s up to the police to investigate and prosecute. They failed to do that under Labour. We don’t need a press regulation as it will almost certainly be abused by future governments.

mind i cant really see that it was any of his business seeing as he had no connection with the school.
if it is proven that her death was linked to that articall i hope he will have the bollocks to make a groveling public apology to her family and friends.
but i do not hold out much hope of that happening.

I agree about eh libel laws. But they need reform. At the moment they mean the rich can abuse the poor but not vice versa.

To be honest I would not regard that article as ‘bullying’! He was expressing an opinion that many people would agree with. Littlejohn was showing concern for the children involved in the story wasn’t he? Aren’t the feelings of the 169 pupils more important than one man’s preferences?

For the record, it was Lord Justice [Brian Henry] LEVESON who presided over the press regulation inquiry. Not to be confused with Lucy Levenson, the artist featured in Country Living magazine, or Barry Levinson the American film producer/director.

A most relevant article [which Tom lists above in red] is :
In this case, in 1995, disgraced News Of The World hack Paul McMullan published not one but several articles claiming Jennifer Elliott, 31, was living as a prostitute on the streets & hooked on heroin. McMullan admitted that he had used information obtained illegally by bribing police officers.
Just as in this Richard Littlejohn – Lucy Meadows case, there is no direct proof that a hack writing a scandal article in a daily newspaper can cause someone’s suicide [because suicide is such a personal decision, usually as a result of many contributing factors], there is still a question mark over whether McMullan’s sleazy articles contributed to Jennifer’s state of mind. She killed herself by hanging 8 years later, aged 39. Denholm had died of AIDS-related TB in Ibiza in 1992.

Postscript:
http://www.onthemedia.org/2011/dec/02/former-news-of-the-world-reporter-paul-mcmullan-
McMullan gave an interview on Dec 2, 2011 to Brooke Gladstone which is quite revealing. He claims he not only wrote articles about Jenny Elliott but did it to impress his then editor Piers Morgan. He claims he paid Jenny £50 for sex so she could buy methadone and took topless photos of her.

@dave stringer you are talking bollocks..what has someones sexual identity got to do with their job? perhaps you are suggesting that the person was a paedo..well there are paedo teachers of course but oddly enough arent detected till later..and are not overtly noticed …in fact it comes as a shock as they are thought to be ‘respectable married types’…

The feelings of the students are of course important, and the school seems to have striven admirably to explain to all of them what’s happened and ensured support is available for them. As they did for Miss Meadows. Littlejohn has absolutely no concern for the individuals involved in this. He simply saw a story, headlines, and decided to abuse a woman trying to live her life in doing so.
And I doubt – or at least I hope – that many would agree that she was in the wrong job. We have absolutely no evidence on her ability to teach other than the effusive praise shared by her colleagues and employer. That doesn’t sound like she was in the wrong job to me.
