(not satire – it’s the UK today!)
In a breathtaking display of audacity, the proprietors of the Telegraph, the Sun and the Mail have all threatened to ignore any vote in parliament if MPs decide today to set up an independent press regulation system.
The threat by Rupert Murdoch, Lord Rothermere and the Barclay brothers to ignore decisions democratically taken by elected members of our parliament shows the four foreign-resident, tax-exile, billionaire press barons who control the majority of the press in the UK – clearly think UK laws are only for the plebs and they’re exempt from them.
Personally I think if Murdoch, Rothermere and the Barclay brothers really do think they’re above the law – a spell in Wandsworth Prison alongside Chris Huhne might do wonders to dispossess them of that illusion.
Don’t you?

If people stopped buying their bloody snot-rags, laughingly called ‘newspapers’, then it would not matter a tinker’s toss what they thought or did.

Agree and already done that – and resigned from telly licence, corresponding with useless MP about Child Sexual Abuse, starting to email press in bulk this week….. what next, I’m thinking!

I wonder if they really mean ‘any law’ passed or more specifically ‘any law to do with press regulation’? Whichever it is, I hope the full weight of the law is brought to bear upon them personally rather than their newspapers if they should foolishly choose to ignore the law. We’ve seen the outcome of ‘self-regulation’; a free-for-all in which the weak go to the wall and the poor are left with no means to defend themselves. They deserve everything they get within the law should they choose to break it. They at least will be given a right of reply and trials that are both just and fair, unlike the persecuted victims of their gutter campaigns.
