(It’s not satire – it’s UKIP!)
We all know UKIP members don’t like immigrants or homosexuals much.
But most of them would presumably baulk at the idea of building a network of concentration camps across the country to keep them in.
The chairman of UKIP Bristol, Mr Philip Collins (not that one), seems to think it’s a good idea though.
And even more surprising, he seems happy to admit it in public.
Mr Collins’ comments on what he calls ‘holding camps’ for immigrants come about halfway through this excellent interview with him from www.vice.com:
MY LOCAL UKIP REPRESENTATIVE DOESN’T LIKE IMMIGRANTS AT ALL
Apart from immigrants, I wonder if Mr Collins thinks other people – like homosexuals – should be put in the camps too?
By the way, if you go right to the end of the interview – you’ll also see Collins pretty much openly threatens the interviewer Chris Goodfellow (@mediaspank):
Don’t misquote what I say………. If you have, I’ll be upset and I’ll come and see you and make you unhappy. I’m telling you that now.
What charmers those UKIP guys are, eh?

Don’t bloody well know why people laid down their lives fighting the Nazis when idiots are willing to vote them in anyway.

Well, it was the obvious corollary to the Tory councillor suggesting euthanasia for disabled children. Doubtless Ukip felt emboldened to take the next step.

The more open members become about the real UKIP agenda; the more potential voters will realise the truth – hopefully with everything crossed?!

What next? A yellow star for ‘undesirables’ (migrants) and pink for ‘asocials’ (gays)? A nice inscription over the entrance that reads ‘Arbeit macht frei’?
These people and their fellow travellers (voters),yes we even had those in the ’30s as well, make me ashamed to be British.

Ah, “holding camp” – sounds so inoffensive doesn’t it? My children’s great grandfather “died” in a “holding camp” on the German-Polish border in 1942 after 30 years (and bringing up his family) in Germany and forced deportation back to a Poland which no longer wanted him.

A word of interest to Trevor (Warner) above: the estimable IDS, referring to the idiotic and failed back to work schemes, did actually say in an interview, ‘Work is [a sort of] freedom’. Translated into German, that’s Arbeit Macht Frei. You’d think a party under an ex-PR man could do better. But wasn’t there once one run by a house painter or something? The same stigmatisation of claimants attaches to the suggestion of benefit cards, which can be used only for buying ‘desirable’ items of shopping, not alcohol or anything of the kind. And the suggestion of disposing of expensive disabled children. Hard to imagine my late father was present at the liberated Belsen-Bergen camp.

A journalist wrote this a few years ago:
Inconvenient elections are avoided in the name of getting on with the job.
Leaders of the opposition are character-assassinated by the state media.
Institutions like the legislature begin to lose their independence and traditional role.
Citizens are increasingly afraid to speak openly on certain issues.
Citizens are observed and monitored on cameras and the government can tap into their conversations at will.
Governments can snatch anyone from their homes or off the street and detain them without trial on charges of treason or terrorism.
Ethnic and religious minorities are persecuted and are made into scapegoats.
The state increasingly intervenes in family and community life in an attempt to control citizens’ behavior.
The focus of discussion moves away from the issues and into a narrative of political rivalries and gossip spreads.
Governments use “bread and circuses” to shut people up and distract attention away from their increasing political impotence.
Public spaces for demonstrations are closed down and restricted.
Large and ridiculous monuments are built to impress the citizens.
Individuals have to carry ID with them at all times and the government holds large amounts of information on every citizen.
Now the journalist in question was Phil Hall writing for the Guardian in 2008. You’d imagine that he was speaking about some politically backward country with an oppressed society. He was, it’s called Great Britain. However these points seem to loosely describe the Roman Empire at it’s worst as well as Nazi Germany. Beware who you vote for.
