Public Health Minister Anna Soubry has announced she has discovered a surprising link between people being poor and the lack of money they’ve got to spend.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the Tory MP for Broxtowe claimed she had noticed that some of the poorest people in her constituency often have a tendency to be penniless and she described how easy it was to identify poor people because many of them insisted on being strapped for cash or even flat-broke.
She also criticised poverty-stricken families for the fact that poor children often had to endure a lifestyle of hardship and impoverishment – and she placed the blame for recent sharp increases in child poverty firmly on hard-up parents not being able to afford to give their children a rich lifestyle instead of a poor one.
However, a spokesperson for Number 10 insisted Ms Soubry’s comments did not reflect official coalition thinking:
There is no clear evidence at all to suggest that poverty is caused by something as simple as a lack of money and it’s about time hard-up families stopped blaming their poverty on unrelated factors such as the fact they don’t have any cash.
Hard-up parents have to realise that if they can’t afford to feed their children – they should stop being so poor and become millionaires instead so they can wait in line for a tax cut, just like the rest of us strivers have had to do.

It is all part of positting such things as purely attributal to moral failings/the welfare system.Even though there is little difference of obesity of different income groups-this of course shows the opposite-despite income restriction and lack of options the poor are clearly simply better and more loving parents,it is the well off who tend to lack morality and parental skills preferring to farm their children out to others.

These fat lazy northerners should get off their arses and find work instead of drinking beer eating chips and training whippets or flying pigeons and wearing flat caps. and just what the hell is ‘ee bah gum ‘ supposed to mean. It’s no use giving money to them they will probably spend it on opening a coal mine or working man’s club or some such nonsense.

She’s my MP, and she is incredibly hamfisted: I’ve been following and writing about her for years and this is fairly typical. She also claimed that when she ‘walked rough her constituency in Nottingham’. It’s in Nottinghamshire, though as she still hasn’t moved here 3 years after promising that she would if she was elected, she probably isn’t aware of this.

She also believes diseases are spread by miasmas and ‘bad airs’, thinks phrenology is a valid science, and selling off the NHS will improve the nation’s health.

Eric Pickles is fat lazy and from up north Bob. So was Cyril Smith. But they are/were acceptable as fat lazy northerners because they were part of the Westminster bubble.
Let’s start a campaign for our representatives to be role models of the type of individual and society they wish to see. A house composed of 600+ lithe, athletic and morally incorruptable specimens. Otherwise we might get the idea that they are hypocrites.

You haven’t mentioned Angela Epstein one of the panelists who complained that her 100kcombined income was not enough to cover the loss of child benefit, printed in the daily mail as an issue worthy of sympathy.

Why do we bother watching QT it is so bias towards right wing ideology and relevant guests, such bias extends to their big questions programme which went out today asking’ is it immoral to cut benefits to the poor?’, the predictably response objecting to benefits to all but those who are worthy, was continually given most airtime and opposition to this view was limited.

Dear Ms Soubry I’m so sorry to hear that rich people can’t afford tvs in front of which to eat. I have a broken one you can have if you care to send round a driver to pick it up. It works if you bang it on the side. There is no charge, because as a previous recipient of a food bank, I’m part of the Big Society. Warm regards, Miss Renard, Cambridge
