(not satire I’m afraid)
People have told me that Vince Cable often comes across as one of the cuddliest members of the coalition government.
Strange that. Considering he could actually be one of the most uncuddly members of the decidedly uncuddly bunch of stuffed puppets that make up Cameron’s cabinet.
Vince was Chief Economist for very, very uncuddly Royal Dutch Shell from 1995 to 1997. That’s a senior post. A very, very senior post.
Numerous independent organisations from Greenpeace to Amnesty International have criticised Shell for everything from disregarding human rights abuses to endangering the environment.
And exactly during the time Vince worked at Shell, a group of nine activists from the Ogoni region of Nigeria, including outspoken author and playwright Ken Saro-Wiwa were executed by hanging by the military dictator General Sani Abacha.
Ken Saro-Wiwa had been a fierce critic of Shell and after accusations of collusion and lawsuits were brought against Royal Dutch Shell in 2009, Vince’s company agreed an out-of-court settlement in which they paid the victims’ families $15.5m, rather than face a New York Federal court.
So – taking all that into account- are you still sure Vince is as cuddly as people think he is?

Strange that a chief economist for a global mega corporation downgrades to the position of cabinet minister, usually other way round. I would be interested to know how much foriegn aid Nigeria got from British taxpayers during Mr Cuddlies previous occupation, just a thought.

“Find out why security information is critical for threat management and compliance reporting
Discover the key components of security information solutions based on ‘completeness of vision’ and ‘ability to execute’ in the market”
Theres that synchronisity thing, again.

You are only saying that because A: you are a person B: you exist.

Looks like I may have misjudged his true nature. I have been writing to him for over a year trying to persuade him to get rid of Clegg and lead his party out of coalition but all to no avail. I see why now.

I worked in mineral exploration in West Africa in the 1990s. Cable’s involvement in these murders was pretty much an open secret. People were meant to know that if they messed with Shell they would be strung up.

My god. I’m appalled. Why are we only learning this now? Shell’s collusion in the destruction of millions of lives in Nigeria and in the hanging of Saro-Wiwa has been nothing short of disgusting. Vince Cable must fully disclose his knowledge and/or involvement in this, and be held accountable.

Greedy psychopathic corporations attract greedy psychopathic people, what else do you need to know? They all have blood on their hands. Royal Dutch Shell – of which our beloved monarchy has controlling interests – is just one of the reasons that keep Africa in poverty. And I shouldn’t read too much into Greenpeace and Amnesty International’s so-called criticism of Shell, those organisations were co-opted a long time ago, just google Patrick Moore, Greenpeace’s founder. I’m not convinced that Patrick Moore is a friend of humanity but he has succeeded in muddying the environmental waters more thoroughly and cast doubt on Greenpeace.
I would suggest that Cable sees himself as a political leader one day, judging from his track record of stabbing political rivals in the back, and this is why he seemingly prefers to stay in politics rather than the corporate cesspit.
