Way back in 1995, Murdoch’s hacks at the News of the World paid a police officer a couple of hundred quid for information for a story which eventually drove the actor Denholm Elliot’s daughter Jennifer Elliott to suicide.
Jennifer was no celebrity. She was a young woman going through difficult times.
After the hatchet job done on her by Murdoch’s bullies – Jennifer hung herself.
Even the odious Murdoch hack and ex-deputy editor of the NotW Paul McMullan says he regrets it:

On the eve of the Leveson Inquiry report, let’s not forget that real innocent people’s lives have suffered at the hands of an out-of-control UK press.
In fact, Murdoch and the rest of the gutter press should be lucky all they’re facing is tighter regulation of their businesses.
I’d be tempted to put the lot of them in prison for some of the innocent people’s lives they’ve destroyed over the years.

yes, the murder-doch press has done some really nasty dirty sneaky stuff that it should be made to pay compensation for, or even go to prison for, but the laws are in place to do that, have been for a long time……… the fact no one in govt asked for this to be done should raise alarm bells.
they knew about jimmy, big cyril and all the other child abusers, they kept quiet, quids-pro-quo……………… M15 took the evidence, say no more about it.
the press just pretends its on our side, it reminds me of a pet rotty, that the govt lets off the leash as and when it only it suits the agenda,
islam v english, islam v america, islam v jews, or even islam v islam or gay v christian or unemployed v working or oaps v nhs or fat v thin in fact any hatred they can stir up to keep the country divided, in fear or anger, because if it all stopped tomorrow…………………….. we might realise the main enemy is not what we imagined, but our own govt who are stealing our money left right and centre, throwing it at tin pot criminals who fund private wars in africa, who build 14 million pound houses, to china to india, to support the western allies who are arab spring boarding.
our govts have not worked for us for decades, but for corporations, bankers and themselves.
5 billion to get 2% working……………… how many houses would it have built, how many jobs would it have created……………… nope they do not want jobs, they would prefer to grab more taxes and keep the borders open.
if the french can keep control of the borders and throw out economic migrants, we sure as sure can, we pay more than them into the money-pit black hole called eu-rope.
when dave 250k was asked about the pederast in thatchers govt, he could have said eggy curry named morrison in her book, but no they played dirty, they wanted an end to any inquiry, so we had this dog and pony show put on for the braindead who are now no longer going to utter a word, might get sued………. not that anyone has been…….. david icke has asked to be sued………….. why wasn’t that headline news?
we do not have a free press, we have a group of quislings who occasionally grow a pair and expose the smaller crimes, like bribery, i mean donations for contracts, i mean policy amendments………..not.
the sad part is children will continue to be abused, alpine is richer by 400k, no one in the press mentioned the d notice on the scotish herald, put on by tony blair that mentioned the child porn downloaded by top politicians…………. oh look, another wardrobe malfunction………………….

The gutter press are like most bullies, they’ll go after the soft targets but rarely, if ever, do they go after the real scumbags who have clout.
The press is already regulated by the rich and powerful. Investigative journalism is almost non-existent. All we get are government approved press-releases which are printed word for word in every rag. If the journalists are prevented from reporting real news then they will find alternatives and scrape the bottom of the barrel.

Paul McMullan was never deputy editor of the News of the World. In 1995, he wasn’t even on permanent staff.

Tom, i just read on another of your blogs about trolls that the woman Sonia Poulton identified here http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/420369/How-I-unmasked-my-vile-Twitter-trolls as “A woman in Holland” made an attempt at suicide yesterday because of Poulton’s twisted and evil publication in the Express, as anyone who follows all her and her twitter supertrolls garbage can identify her from the article and that is libel !
