Controversial BBC Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson caused controversy when he appeared on The One Show last night and appeared to advocate killing footballers. During the show, Mr Clarkson said:
I’d have all strikers shot. I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families.
It was not initially clear why the famously overweight and unfashionable TV personality should have such strong views on the forward positioning of football players but the broadcaster’s comments sparked hundreds of angry comments on Twitter.
When contacted about the controversy, a BBC spokesperson said:
The BBC would like to point out that Jeremy Clarkson is an expert on cars and motoring, not on football, and his comments in no way reflect the official position of the BBC on matters of footballing strategy. We would also like to to point out that Mr Clarkson is well known for being a bit of a knob so any of his comments should be seen in that light.
