The announcement that the murder of a young British soldier in Woolwich was the work of men police believe were British-born Londoners sparked fears of a backlash against cockneys and eastenders yesterday.
As the direction of the investigation became clear, a parallel operation was launched by police chiefs to brief community leaders in the capital and prepare for reprisal attacks on anyone expressing a liking for jellied eels or looking like they were born within the sound of Bow bells.
Police say that since Wednesday’s horrific events, police have recorded 30 hate crime incidents against the cockney and mockney community, including an attack on a man wearing an I ♥ London T-shirt and criminal damage to a pie and mash shop.

Well it’s just as ridiculous as blaming all Muslims for the tragic events in Woolwich, isn’t it?

thoughts are with the family of poor boy who lost his life just based on religious difference, the culprits should be given death penalty. this is a time to think about one thing and that is how to ‘go against sick mentality’ and please be united.

Murderers probably were on benefits – so what? If they worked in IT would that make all IT workers terrorists? UKIP thrives in areas of low educational attainment – does that make all “failing schools” a breeding ground for UKIP?

For years Cockneys all over the country have been allowed to carry on as though they were still in Plaistow, building snooker halls and drinking dens in our towns and cities and singing Knees Up Mother Brown in spite of neighbours objections concerning the horrible noise. No wonder it’s come to this, and now the BBC will adopt their default ‘Blame the Rest Of Us’ default setting as pearly King and Queens appear on news programmes to whine about a non existent backlash against Cockneys.

A little too early after the event for this ‘satirical’ piece. I take the point but my gut feeling rejects it simultaneously. Your bloggers ego seems to have blinded you to the emotions felt by many after this pre-meditated ‘theatre of blood’. Don’t be proud of this piece.

There is clearly much anger and revulsion surrounding the horriffic murder of Fusilier Rigby, a lot of it via online resources such as comment boxes or Facebook, and a lot of it anti-Muslim.
Ranting and railing about this evil act will change nothing, by using satire to highlight what we are all capable of thinking or doing shows the world that although many of our political beliefs and social backgrounds may differ, we must not fall into the trap of hatred and division that the vile murderers have laid for us.
I am possibly one of the more right wing people who reply now and then to Tom Pride’s pieces and I often poke fun or pick holes in them, but the EDL or BNP do not reflect my views any more than those of Anjem Choudary reflects the views of ordinary Muslims. I share your sense of revulsion at what has happened but we need to present a united front now, and humour and satire helps some of us to do this.
