(not satire – it’s Jesse Norman MP!)
Tory MP Jesse Norman – author of Cameron’s favourite book The Big Society – decided the tragic death of Reeva Steenkamp was so funny he just had to tweet a Valentine’s joke about it.
This is what Norman tweeted:
Roses are red. Violets are glorious. Never sneak up, On Oscar Pistorious.
Obviously Norman decided it was a little bit too bad taste even for him to make fun of the tragic death of a young woman – so he deleted the tweet soon after.
Unluckily for him – it’s not so easy for politicians to cover up their tracks these days.

How odd, I am reasonably sure that if OP was living in Britain you would be claiming he did it because he failed his Atos medical – remember Petronius, Petronius not Pistorius, ‘you can see the lice on Tory MPs but you cannot see the ticks on yourself’.
A little bit of maths, Ed is going to give £2 per week for 25,000,000 tax payers; the source is Ed Milliband; most of this money is going to be raised from 70,000 people who own homes above £2,000,000; the source is Ed Balls; £2 x 52 x 25,000,000 equals £2,600,000,000 or thereabouts. Divide that figure by 70,000, and each owner of a house worth £2,000,000, is going to pay £37,000,000 a year; now that is a granny tax.

You should be in the shadow cabinet – but let us look at what would happen if the same principle was to be applied to you; let us assume you earn the average wage, say about £26,000 per annum; let us assume you have paid for your house, but that its value is say £125,000; then by the same parameters as set by Ed the Shred, it would be reasonable for you, who could not of course be a thieving bastard, to pay £2,225,000 per year council tax. Now of course you may be in a position to pay this, or you may be among those who would not have to, ie on benefits; but of course if you do pay taxes, it might just be worthwhile thinking through the consequences of your socialism. Now of course if I really thought that the 70,000, ‘thieving bastards’ could actually pay the 2.6 billion, or indeed were willing to do so, I would be very happy for them to do so, and as they are so obviously rich, perhaps they could pay mine as well, and oh by the way they can pay my electricity and gas bills if they want to. However these grannies who are ‘thieving bastards’, may not be able to, or may find a way of getting rid of their house, (perhaps by bequeathing it to a charity and paying rent?) Now at this point Canon and Balls have still got to keep their ‘promise’, and have got to raise 2.6 billion, now let us look who they might look at next, OMG, they might just start looking at the next two bands, ie those who earn £9,000 to 43,000 and £43,000 to £120,000. Oddly this is the very same 25,000,000 people that they are exempting tax £2 a week; Mr Pride thinks he knows about satire – he actually does not, as the Americans would say, ” He does not know his arse from a hole in the ground”, but Canon and Balls understand the dynamics of satire almost instinctively. I have nominated them for the comedy awards 2013.

1 woman is murdered by their partners, every 3 days in the UK. We really don’t find ‘jokes’ about domestic violence amusing. Nor should any person with a shred of conscience.
The elected representative of the women of his constituency, know now that he cares not for their safety, for their protection, for them.
Just another one of those men who thinks a woman murdered by her partner is a matter for joking. We find them everywhere.
We are never surprised, but always disappointed.

I’m sure the guy’s a total shit and a joke at the expense of a murder is poor taste but I’d rather our politicians made these mistakes from time to time than put up with the endless anodyne PR drivel we have had to learn to expect.
People tend to want this, hence the popularity of that nob Boris.

Oh, get away. My girl friend texted me that joke. And it was funny, as a Valentine’s Day text. I think she’d realised by then that the “suspected burglar” line wasn’t really holding any water, so it was bad taste. But that is what jokes are: they violate social conventions. Do you want to be a member of the anti-humour party?

Go and poke a young Labour member. Ask them who Nye Bevan was. Would they know? Would they know who Michael Foot was? PS Read Milan Kundera. Or, to paraphrase ‘1984’, “If there is hope, it lies in the Poles.” There’s a great joke in “The Lives of Others” (I can’t find it on YouTube). Erich Honecker greets the sun in the morning. “Good morning, Herr Sonne” “Good morning Comrade Honecker” (or Dear Leader, or whatever). At noon, he goes to the window, “Good afternoon, Herr Sonne”, “Good afternoon, Herr Honecker.” At the end of the day he goes to the window. “Good evening, Herr Sonne.” Nothing. “Herr Sonne?” “Fuck you, I’m in the West now.”
The Stasi didn’t find that joke funny.

BTW – the Kundera joke is both funny and full of meaning. As all good satire should be. Norman’s joke was not meaningful or funny. It was just offensive. If you can’t see the difference between being satirical and being offensive – you need to stop pretending you’re such an expert on humour.

I was not aware that MP`s were required to be candidates for deification.
It is for the family and friends of the dead woman to find offense in bad jokes such as this one…..not for sheeple who are `shocked and offended` in a sad effort to prove that their morals are superior to that of others.
I find offense in those who promote such a puerile mentality.

Apart from gushing dribble from the orifice of the Uberfilth himself — and pictures of him ‘in action’ such as ‘answering the phone’ or ‘pointing his hand’– the comments there-following range from cloned arse-licking drivel to outright illiterate bigotry.
I have tried to have debates with people there, to attempt to find ‘what makes a tory voter’, but it is pretty impossible to get a proper sentence from them, and many just throw abuse at your face and start using words like ‘Tony Blair’…..
Is caMoron proud to allow these idiots in his gang? I can only assume that a defensive wall of such dross-people is better than nothing; his wealthy gang can get on with the business of making money at their expense. I do not expect MPs to aspire to sainthood, as your inevitable extreme opposite tries to suggest, Zeusgoose; but I do expect them to be able to effect self-restraint in certain situations. If they cannot realise the subtleties f the moral code, they have no right to be representing the people as MP.

Her violent boyfriend fired bullets at her hip, hand, head and arm.
She died vulnerable and petrified, with a crushed skull, at the hands of someone who was supposed to love her.
A violent killer is charged with premeditated murder. Her parents lose their young daughter.

I take the point about this being poor taste but I did think after the ridiculous McAlpine legal action and fall out that we would gradually return to normal. Is it permanent silly season where we have to comment and debate all tweets and remarks which perhaps on reflection should not have been made?
I think we should not be so judgemental on people who make the odd mistake on Twitter. Otherwise we will end up with an internet with no free thinking, no humour and no one brave enough to say what they believe out of fear of upsetting someone.

Yes it is never right to make jokes about murder or domestic violence. This MP for whatever reason passed on or retweeted a joke sent on to him. I in my more humble capacity also receive e-mails, (I do not tweet I think it is stupid), with lots of inappropriate material, which I do not think I have ever pass on – but if I did, for whatever reason, I would try and rescind it, not in order to ‘cover up’ or because of some deep seated animosity towards any group, but because, on consideration I would have concluded it was innapropriate. Let us however look at Mr Pride, having either been notified or having found this reference himself; he decides to draw attention to it. While accusing the Conservative MP of inhumanity, (I am surprised for once he has not accused the MP of the murder), he then decides to circulate this fact on his blog, for the whole world to see, quoting the original insensitive joke in full, while putting on a mock rage, to hide the gratuity of his actions.If it was wrong for the MP to communicate this joke, why is it ok for Mr Pride to repeat it? I have no doubt about who has displayed the worst taste as Mr Pride’s actions were premeditated and planned.
Your figure would be rather higher if you counted the number of males killed by their female partners, which while being lower than the male figure is still 16% of the total number of people killed by their partners; your figure implies about 120 females killed per year by males, and in addition about 20 males a year are killed by their female partners. The plain truth is that any one of us is more likely to be killed by someone close to us than a stranger. However millions of people are in relationships and fortunately very few end up tragically, and when they do, the event is still rare enough to be front page news. As both the family of OP and the police seem to be briefing the press with mutually conflicting accounts I will draw my conclusions about OP’s innocence or guilt after the trial.

Reeva’s family would be deeply hurt and saddened by sick jokes. This is a tragic story all round, Reeva is dead, her family destroyed. Oscar Pistorius career and life in shreds and yet the world find the time to make jokes about the tragedy and his disability. Think of all the disabled people reading the jokes and being hurt – if it were your family or someone close to you would you find it funny Mr ‘Weed’en – So many judges out there that seem to have all the answers, yet all they do is have time to text and tweet senseless sick jokes. What a wonderful mentality to have ……………..SICK
I couldnt care if its a politician or an ordinary person off the street – all jokes like these are tasteless and absolutely disgusting. How would you feel to be any one of these people involved in this awful tragedy ‘Weed’en??????

I think politicians should just keep written diaries nowadays, like they did in the days of Winston Churchhill. Maybe a commonplace book. Then they’d be published decades later & we’d see how evil/politically incorrect they were then! 🙂
But this huge modern (social) media kerfuffle every time a polly/sleb says/tweets something.. I’m not really for it tell you the truth.

I am astonished that you counter the statistic that 3 women a killed a week with the comment that ‘fortunately very few’ relationships end up tragically. Hardly worth bothering with…. 3 a week. Not sure where you get the idea it’s considered ‘front page news’ from either? Only incidents involving famous people or particularly gory stories seem to make the paper. 42% of all female homicide victims, compared with 4% of male homicide victims, are killed by current or former partners in England and Wales….. so it’s not ‘any one of us’ that’s more likely to be killed by our partner.. it’s women. If those statistics make you feel uncomfortable then let’s try to address the issue of domestic violence and not sweep it under the carpet.
PS I simply don’t believe that someone in Jesse Norman’s position retweets stuff without first reading it and considering the content. I also wonder it wasn’t a friend or advisor who pointed out to him why he was being insensitive and uncaring. He’s a Tory MP after all.

You will believe what your prejudice dictates you to believe. There is a significant statistical difference between men and women, with most crime being committed by men in practically every area of crime. In fact the murder rate among partners is narrower than the sex differnce in most other crimes, and it is certainly according to charities that campaign on this subject narrower than 4% 96%. You are a remarkable person, clearly on a different moral planet, as you have never forwarded anything inadvertently. You certainly deserve to be in the shadow cabinet, as they only forwarded the economy inadvertently, if I remember right they senrt it to Germany. I agree with the above emails and consider that politicians, and in fact everyone else should not twitter or facebook. I will leave that to paragons like you. May the tetsie fly settle on your groundnut tree.
